Communication Problems
// November 8th, 2012 // Opinion
I don’t know why, but people avoid to introduce themselves in any kind of social environments. It is so common that, although it’s my 3rd months in Lehigh, there are some PhD students that I don’t know. I don’t know their names, year, research and even office numbers (because nobody is around during a normal day).
I am trying to learn people whenever there is a guest professor, who asks us to introduce ourselves. It is sad that there is not any event that gathers PhD students in the department. This communication problem leads pointless distance between people in time. On the other hand, people tend to talk with others from same country when they go abroad.
Maybe there should be some student clubs which try to gather people with attractive events.
Well, I remember that one of the reasons that I start my blog, when I was an undergraduate student, is to introduce myself to any reader efficiently. I’m glad to see people talk with me more when they read my blog. So, at least I’m trying to break those barriers in my way.

Hmm, I cannot agree with you more. Actually coffee hour is a good choice to get familiar with each other. But people don’t come often.
Yeah, you’re right. Also, another problem is that coffee hour is not organized regularly.
